Job Description

To actively participate in the efficient and safe operation of the Medical Imaging Department, providing a consistent, high-quality service to all patients and visitors.

 

Principle duties and responsibilities:

  • Body scans including doppler.
  • Performs a complete range of fetal and prenatal imaging efficiently and effectively.
  • Image female reproductive system, thyroid or neck and breast tissue to check for abnormalities.
  • Ensures high-quality of all images and documents sent to digital storage or PACS (image quality, correct markers, annotations, and patient data/history).
  • Provides clinical orientation and helps develop competencies for new Ultrasound Technologists joining the department as directed by the Medical Imaging Manager.
  • Provides Ultrasound services with technique appropriate to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Responsible for the coordination of patient exam flow through the department and assists the office staff, ER staff, Nursing staff with the scheduling of patients.
  • Maintains sonographic and other equipment in efficient operating order.
  • Operates radiologic equipment and performs related technical procedures.
  • Performs additional manager or supervisor assigned duties.
  • Provides monitoring, coaching and evaluation of team members’ performance, especially in the areas of productivity and quality management.
  • Serves as a positive role model by working with team members to promote teamwork and cooperation.
  • Oversees equipment quality control testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Handles delicate situations (fetal demise, cancerous pathology,) in a supportive and empathetic manner (“good bedside manner”), while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding exam outcomes or potential issues.
  • Prepares all the equipment for each test before it begins, such as inserting needles into patients for blood tests and checking that tubes are connected properly.
  • for using a machine that is like an ultrasound but with different controls.
  • After tests, analyzes data, and makes informed decisions about how to proceed with each case, such as whether surgery is needed.
  • Helps doctors and other medical staff interpret images of patients’ internal organs and make recommendations about their treatment.
  • Works closely with laboratory, radiology, or cardiology staff to provide regular updates on patient’s conditions or test results.
  • Maintains inventory, cleans medical equipment, or assists with other tasks as the need arises.
  • Represents the mission, vision, and values of the Hospital through volunteer activities which enhance the image of the profession and the hospital.
  • Stands, pushes, pulls, and lifts patients to work effectively with patients.
  • Adjusts routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting departmental flow and participates in ‘on call’ rotation as determined per specific department needs.

 

Education requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technologist program or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Radiography (Preferred).
  • Nasal bone certification and Echo certification (Desired).

 

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience (required)
  • Minimum 3 year in GCC (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Able to lift objects heavier than 50 pounds, perform difficult manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination skills, walk, and stand for prolonged periods, see objects closely and hear normal sounds with some background noises.
  • Proficiency (OB/GYN) or MSK, Breasts Small parts, Vascular
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills.
  • Ability to write own reports using correct medical terminology to describe anatomy.
  • Ability to operate and understand radiologic and sonographic technology and equipment.
  • Work shifts, weekends, nights, and holidays.
