Job Description

JOB SUMMARY 

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary imaging team, the Technologist I – Radiography, under the direction of the Supervisor – Radiography, performs the operational activities pertaining to the Radiography imaging services to ensure delivery of a high-quality Diagnostic imaging service at Sidra. The General Radiography imaging service provides inpatient and outpatient Radiography procedures on pediatric and adult patients on a referral basis and medical research. The Technologist I – Radiography deputizes for the Supervisor – Radiography as and when required. Through the production of high-quality images, the Technologist I – Radiography is responsible to ensure a high standard of service is continually provided to all patients, parents and other hospital staff as prescribed in the patient care and facility standards set down by Sidra Medical and Research Center.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Plans, prioritizes and organizes Radiography workload, ensuring the necessary patient care is provided to patients of all ages.
  • Ensures that systems and standards that promote patient safety and safe practices for delivering patient care for the modality are adhered to as directed. Provides modality expertise in reference to the Radiography service, assists in the maintenance and development of the Radiography service.
  • Works independently, performs all routine and specialized Radiography procedures, and associated responsibilities, as dictated by the workload in the rostered area. Plans, prioritizes and organizes Radiography workload, ensuring the necessary patient care is provided to patients of all ages. 
  • Acts independently in the assessment of referrals for Radiography examinations, taking full responsibility to reduce unnecessary ionizing radiation exposure of patients and utilizing skills to assess a patient’s condition, often acute, decide on an appropriate method to obtain a diagnostic image from a range of options.
  • Participates in standby and on call roster systems for the Diagnostic Imaging service, in imaging areas appropriate to training and qualifications, as designated by senior staff.
  • Provides support and relief for department supervisors as required.
  • Adheres to departmental and applicable organizational policies, procedures and regulations relevant to the Radiography patient care team. Maintains accurate and concise records of all imaging received by the patient using the appropriate systems. 
  • Supports the Supervisor – Radiography to manage and maintain a high level of expertise and reducing faults/issues effectively to guarantee the safe operations of the Radiography equipment, ensuring an efficient flow and optimal utilization of resources. 
  • Implements directed change to effect continual improvement in services provided, and ensures compliance with all internal and external standards as well as regulatory and legal requirements. 
  • Involves in the training and development of new employees on equipment and procedures in the area of operations in alignment with the departments and Sidra’s training objectives and plans.
  • Participates in and complies with quality improvement programs and competency assessment initiatives for the Diagnostic imaging services.
  • Participates in mandatory training and actively practices continual professional development in alignment with Sidra’s professional development programs to ensure maintenance of professional licensure/accreditation.
  • Monitors and maintains stock levels for consumables relative to the service. 
  • Adheres to and promotes compliance with the hospital’s radiation safety and protection and MRI safety policies and associated codes of practice and takes appropriate action where non-compliance is evident.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA

Education 

ESSENTIAL: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Imaging. OR Associate degree or Diploma in Radiology Technology/Radiology Science in addition to successful completion of a National licensure examination from an internationally recognized licensing body. 

Post Graduate degree in medical imaging required if base degree not in medical imaging/Radiography.

PREFERRED: Management/leadership/ training diploma certification or course attendance.

Post graduate course/education in mammography and/or BMD.

Experience

ESSENTIAL: 2+ years of clinical experience in diagnostic Radiography imaging

No minimum experience requirements for CNAQ working towards getting their CAMRT certification.

PREFERRED: Experience at a dedicated pediatric medical imaging facility

Knowledge and clinical experience in pediatric Radiography protocols and procedures. 

Delivery of departmental clinical/technical training programs

Certification and Licensure

ESSENTIAL: Eligible for licensure as a Radiography technologist in the State of Qatar.

PREFERRED: Post graduate certificate mammography and/or BMD recognized by the ARRT/CAMRT/HPC or an equivalent licensing/accreditation board.

Job Specific Skills and Abilities.

ESSENTIAL: Knowledge and experience of Radiography Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving Communications Systems (PACS)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

Fluency in written and spoken English.

PREFERRED: Demonstrated strong analytical and decision-making Skills.

Pediatric IV cannulation and injection techniques

Teaching/educator competency

Delivery of departmental clinical/technical training programs.
