SENIOR MRI TECHNOLOGIST (WESTERN TRAINED AND EDUCATED)

To perform MRI examinations within the units/clinics and the Medical Imaging Department of the American Hospital .To be part of all procedures and processes that allow the Medical Imaging Department in providing a high standard of service and patient care by assessing, monitoring, participating and assisting in the daily administration duties, infection control /risk management, quality improvement and departmental / hospital wide in-services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Integrates scientific knowledge, technical competence and patient interaction skills to provide safe and accurate procedures with compassion.
  • Performs MRI procedures, which include instructing and manipulating patients, selecting techniques and calibrating equipment, to obtain high quality images.
  • Schedules patients for MRI examinations if required. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and arranges patient priorities to accommodate them in conjunction with Radiologist instructions.
  • Reviews the request and previous studies before performing the examination.
  • Observes all safety measures in the specialized areas e.g. Radiation/MRI safety screening form
  • Perform any additional duties as required , administration duties assists with filing , clerical and scheduling wherever possible.
  • Recognizes patient conditions essential for the successful completion of the procedure.
  • Independently perform or assist the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of diagnostic, therapeutic, interventional and fusion MRI procedures.
  • Prepare, administer and document activities related to medications in accordance with state and federal regulations or lawful institutional policy.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and continually assess their professional performance.
  • Responsible for daily operations of the MRI scanner, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).
  • Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
  • Uses cognitive CT/MRI skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
  • Assist the Technical Director of Medical Imaging with the co-ordination of the Departmental Quality Improvement and Education Programs.
  • Uses independent judgment during the MRI exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings.
  • Analyses, synthesizes MRI information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
  • Coordinates work schedule with Departmental Director and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the MRI environment care.
  • Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral.
  • Performs all requested MRI examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
  • Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems. Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
  • Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
  • Provides in-service education team on requirements of MRI procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
  • Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, co-workers and all others in a respectful , courteous and confidential manner.
  • Selects appropriate imaging acquisition with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Post processing digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring proper identification is evident.
  • Verifies informed consent for applicable procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
  • Prepares patients for procedures.
  • Apply s principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
  • Performs veinpuncture as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Starting, maintaining and/or removing intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Identifies and prepares and/or administers medications as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Cleans, stocks, check operation of equipment and accessory devices for safety on a daily basis in rostered areas. Clean and tidy rooms at the end of all shifts
  • Evaluates images for technical quality and ensuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Identifies and responding to emergency situations.
  • Educates and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Maintains archival storage of digital data as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates cooperation, coordination, and respect among individuals/departments in order to provide excellent customer service ( internal and external)
  • Demonstrates the ability to deal with patient complaints.
  • Responds to patients positively and politely.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Perform and monitors safety checks on patients , employees and visitors to comply with the safety regulations in the MRI suite
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and hygienic – by disinfecting machine and accessories regularly – keeping food and drinks away from work areas – personal items out of sight
  • Participates in staff meetings and unit projects, and implementing/ evaluating creative approaches to meeting goals

REQUIREMENTS :

Must have:

  • Graduate of an accredited School, University, or Institution from where the qualification permits registration with the ARRT or its equivalent.
  • Current Registered Li-censure in country of citizenship or professional practice.
  • Recommended:
  • Knowledge of JCIA or accreditation standards.
  • At least five (5) years of recent MRI experience, with current clinical experience of (5) years in MRI
  • MRI technologists must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology.
  • Evidence of continuing education.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Middle Eastern customs is advantageous
