Job Description
<p>The Sr. Design Engineer is responsible to plan, develop and conduct laboratory tests for the purpose of developing and validating NIMR vehicle systems. The incumbent must be able to manage several projects in various states of execution (plan, design, build/setup, test development, operation, inspection, and tear-down). Work within a team of design engineers and test technicians responsible for effectively evaluating the structural performance of components and subsystems.<span> </span></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li><span>Consult with NIMR manufacturing & quality staff to provide design solutions to assembly, manufacturing, supplier quality and warranty/field issues;</span></li><li><span>Collaborate with NIMR Design team members to resolve design related issues and improve quality;</span></li><li><span>Participate in Cost Reduction initiatives to reduce costs and improve quality. Report activities and countermeasure solutions to Senior Design Manager;</span></li><li><span>Consult with Purchasing, Supplier Development, Quality Assurance, Process Engineering and other groups to review & investigate design issues;</span></li><li><span>Review high incident customer quality concerns identified on the Quality Incident Report system with Quality Assurance Department to determine if the solution requires a design change. Review part and component designs and make proposed changes to present for approval by NIMR Management;</span></li><li><span>Consult with suppliers on design issues, respond to suppliers’ requests and evaluate suppliers’ proposals;</span></li><li><span>Collaborate with Purchasing to localize parts suppliers and decrease costs. Evaluate design, materials, and suppliers to reduce manufacturing costs;</span></li><li><span>Consult with Engineers to resolve vehicle issues in all areas of manufacturing; provide expert advice, drawings, or information to assist in producing vehicles to high quality production standards. Consult with resident engineers and management to convey information, discuss issues, and make requests to leadership;</span></li><li><span>Engineering responsibilities to include Body Structure (floor, roof, side outer panels, etc) & Fuel Systems (fuel tank, fuel lines, filler pipe and evaporative system); and</span></li><li><span>Perform additional projects as assigned.</span></li></ul><p><br></p><p> <strong>Preferred Minimum Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li> Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field</li><li> PMP, Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification preferred</li></ul><p> <strong>Preferred Experience:</strong></p><ul><li> 5-8 Years of relevant experience in a similar role</li><li> Experience in Engineering Design and Development of Automotive Vehicle Body and/or Systems</li><li> Must interpret basic technical drawings including characteristics such as views, title blocks, dimensioning, GD&T symbols, etc. Interpret specification requirements in relation to product and process characteristics </li><li> Must have experience with and be able to exhibit the use of structured problem solving techniques utilizing computer applications </li><li><span> </span>Analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices and recommend proper automation opportunities</li></ul><p></p>
