<p>Clinical Psychologists are an integral part of the mental health services, focusing on helping children and adolescents who are experiencing a wide range of mental health problems and supporting their families. The aim of a clinical psychologist is to reduce the distress and improve the psychological wellbeing of children, adolescent and their family; who may have a variety of mental or physical health conditions through evidence-based practice.</p><p><br></p><p> </p><p>The clinical psychologist works in partnership with patients in order to diagnose, assess and manage their conditions. Assessment can be done through a range of techniques including interviews, observation and psychometric testing. Once assessed, a treatment plan will be established.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>We usually work as part of a multidisciplinary team that may include other child mental health professionals such as child psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and others. Our work involves liaison with other agencies such as schools and social services. Child Psychology requires an ability to understand issues from a range of perspectives as it usually involves working with the child/young person’s caregivers as well as the child or young person.</p><p> </p><p><br></p><p>Clinical Psychology services at Al Jalila Children’s are provided under the umbrella of the Child Mental Health Center of Excellence, the first of its kind in the region. We provide comprehensive assessment and management of children and adolescents presenting with mental disorders including but not limited to Anxiety Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Tic Disorders, Psychiatric comorbidities in children with developmental delays, Mood disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Adjustment to medical illnesses & psychosocial stressors and other conditions. Most of our work with children, young people and their families is done in out-patient clinics, and a portion in inpatient settings.</p><p> </p><p><br></p><p>Child and Adolescent Psychologists follow a bio-psycho-social framework in clinical care. They are trained in a variety of intervention skills including psychotherapeutic interventions CBT, DBT, ACT, MI, and Systemic work.</p><p> </p><p><br></p><p>Furthermore, Clinical Psychologists are actively involved in the educational program and clinical supervision. In addition to leading research projects.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>The role holder will be undertaking the following responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Competently Assesses patients\ and families needs, abilities or behaviour using a variety of methods, including psychometric tests, interviews and direct observation of their behaviour</li><li>Devises, monitors and adapts appropriate treatment programmes, including therapy, counselling or advice, in collaboration with colleagues.</li><li>Works as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside doctors, nurses, social workers, education professionals, health visitors, psychiatrists and occupational therapists.</li><li>Offers therapy and treatments for issues relating to a range of mental health conditions</li><li>Develops and evaluates service provision for patients</li><li>Provides consultation to other professions, encouraging a psychological approach in their work</li><li>Carries out applied research, adding to the evidence base of practice in a variety of healthcare settings.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Education:</u></strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor Degree in Psychology and at least six years of post-graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institute/college/university or a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, and PsyD (Doctor of Psychology)</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Experience:</u></strong></p><ul><li>A minimum of two (2) years as Clinical Psychologist in a multidisciplinary clinical setting or hospital or a mental healthcare service provider or a minimum of one (1) year as Clinical Psychologist in a multidisciplinary clinical setting or hospital or a mental healthcare service provider.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Certification and Licensure:</u></strong></p><ul><li>A current license/registration to practice as Clinical Psychologist.</li><li>A certificate of good standing issued within last six months by the jurisdiction (licensing authority/professional membership body) in which the applicant holds current license/registration to practice</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Job Specific Skills and Abilities:</u></strong></p><ul><li>Positive, enthusiastic and motivated individual</li><li>Effective communication and interpersonal skills</li><li>Team player</li><li>Experience documenting in an electronic medical record an asset</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite</li><li>Ability to speak and write English is required</li><li>Arabic language skills (spoken) an asset</li></ul>
