<p>We are hiring! </p><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Role:</u> </strong></p><p><br></p><p>Senior BD Manager – Africa<strong> </strong></p><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Reporting Line:</u> </strong></p><p><br></p><p><strong> </strong>Director of Business Development & Marketing</p><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Primary Job Purpose:</u></strong></p><p><br></p><p>In this strategic role, the selected candidate will be responsible for spearheading the execution of the firm’s Africa strategy, with a focus on identifying and capitalizing on business opportunities, building strong relationships with law firms and clients, driving growth across the region through collaboration with third parties, on mutually beneficial opportunities.</p><p>The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the legal industry and wider business landscape in Africa (with a focus on particular jurisdictions as set out in the firm’s Africa strategy) and will demonstrate exceptional business acumen to contribute to the firm’s overall success, and especially in relation to the firm’s Africa strategy.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Duties & Responsibilities:</u></strong></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Develop and Execute Africa Strategy:</strong></p><ul><li>Collaborate with firm leadership to define and implement a comprehensive business development strategy for Africa.</li><li>Identify key markets, sectors, and potential clients to target within the region.</li><li>Conduct thorough market research and analysis to assess industry trends, competitive landscape, and opportunities for growth.</li></ul><p><strong>Business Opportunity Identification:</strong></p><ul><li>Proactively identify and evaluate business development opportunities within Africa, including client leads, strategic partnerships, and potential mergers/acquisitions.</li><li>Build a robust pipeline of opportunities and create strategies to convert them into tangible business relationships.</li><li>Leverage their network and industry connections to identify and pursue new avenues for growth.</li></ul><p><strong>Client Relationship Management:</strong></p><ul><li>Establish and nurture strong relationships with existing and potential law firms and corporate clients in Africa.</li><li>Act as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their business needs, and providing tailored solutions and insights.</li><li>Conduct regular client meetings, presentations, and negotiations to expand business opportunities and foster long-term partnerships.</li></ul><p><strong>Marketing and Branding:</strong></p><ul><li>Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute targeted marketing campaigns and initiatives to promote the firm’s presence and services in Africa.</li><li>Drive the firm’s thought leadership efforts by identifying opportunities for speaking engagements, publications, and participation in relevant industry events.</li></ul><p><strong>Cross-functional Collaboration:</strong></p><ul><li>Collaborate closely with partners, lawyers, and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of business development initiatives with the firm’s overall goals.</li><li>Provide guidance and support to lawyers in proposal development, pitch preparation, and client presentations.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Requirements & Personal Attributes:</u></strong></p><p><br></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in business, law, or a related field.</li><li>Minimum of 10 years’ experience in business development, preferably within the legal industry, with a specific focus on Africa.</li><li>In-depth knowledge of the legal landscape, market dynamics, and cultural nuances across multiple African jurisdictions.</li><li>Proven track record of identifying and successfully executing business development opportunities in Africa.</li><li>Strong network of contacts within the legal and business communities in Africa.</li><li>Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact confidently with clients and internal stakeholders at all levels.</li><li>Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.</li><li>Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Internal Relationships:</u></strong></p><p><br></p><ul><li>Africa Working Group</li><li>Managing Partner</li><li>Chief Operating Officer</li><li>The Business Development and Marketing team</li><li>Lawyers / Partners and other internal stakeholders</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:</u></strong></p><p><br></p><p>Essential to our success as a regional law firm is our ability to attract and retain the best talent from a diverse range of backgrounds.
