Research in these sectors is enhanced by our research platforms of Robotics, AI and Data Science, Information and Communication Technologies, and Advanced Materials and Manufacturing as well as Fundamental Sciences.<br><br><br>Position Overview<br>KU is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to work in the “Robotic Sorting of Engine Blade” project at the Advanced Research and Innovation Center in collaboration with SANAD Aerotech. The aim of this project is to develop a full robotics system capable of measuring the dimensions and mass of the blades, and sort them accordingly. The candidate is expected to work on system integration and robotic manipulation, and sensor fusion to achieve the required tasks. As part of a team of researchers and engineers, the candidate will also get the chance to deploy and test all developed systems and algorithms in production line in industry.<br><br>As part of the project, the researcher will have access to state-of-the-art research equipment and facilities at the Advanced Research and Innovation Center ( https://www.aric.ae/) and will get an opportunity to work alongside researchers and graduate students from various backgrounds as part of a wider team.<br><br>Position Requirements<br>· Develop object detection and segmentation algorithms for robotic grasping using visual sensors.<br>· Investigate and implement different grasping methods, and customizing those methods to the problem of engine blade grasping.<br>· Propose and design novel gripper technologies.<br>· Support other intelligent robotic manufacturing projects at ARIC.<br>· Develop perception software and interface with existing code base written in C++ and Python over ROS.<br>· Coordinate with industrial collaborator to test and deploy the developed approach in real-world applications.<br>· Prepare presentation of research outcomes and dissemination.<br>· Prepare monthly progress reports.<br>· Publish the research findings in reputable conferences and journals.<br>· Support graduate and undergraduate students conducting relevant research projects.<br>· Adhere to the University’s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly<br>· Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager
