Position Overview
KU is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to work on investigating the anti-cancer effects of hemorphins. The project aims to demonstrate the anti-proliferative and anti-metastatic properties of hemorphins and their molecular mechanisms using various cancer cell lines and a variety of in vitro assays. The successful candidate must be able to multitask being involved in different aspects of laboratory and project management. This includes setting up, operating, and maintaining the laboratory equipment, as well as performing research activities such as designing experiments, preparing samples, performing experiments, analyzing results, and managing data. A strong experience in the basic cell and molecular biology laboratory techniques is a must. This includes DNA and protein extraction, cell culture and transfection, SDS-PAGE and agarose electrophoresis, western blot, ELISA, fluorescence/luminescence-based techniques. In addition, the candidate will provide technical support to the students and other laboratory team members working on different parts and tasks related to the proposed research project.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Akli Ayoub in the Biology Department, College of Arts and Sciences at KU. The expected effective date is 01 November 2023.
Position Requirements
– Applicant must have a Master in Biological Sciences and related disciplines.
– Strong background in cell and molecular biology at both theoretical and practical/experimental levels.
– Adhere to the University’s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
– Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager such as lab management, student support, and other service tasks in the department.
