The Ramadi Laboratory for Neuroengineering and Translational Medicine (LANTRN) in the Division of Engineering and the Center for Brain and Health, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Research Assistant to join a young energetic lab focused on neuroengineering of the brain and enteric nervous system.<br><br>The laboratory has recently developed modular brain probes, steerable microneedles, ingestible devices as well as computational frameworks for interfacing with various nervous system targets. The successful applicant will join a number of emerging projects on engineering novel approaches to modulate neural activity in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. These projects have a high potential for translation towards treating a variety of neurologic and metabolic disorders. The candidate will be involved in supporting research efforts, including data collection and analysis, project management, training new lab members, purchasing equipment and consumables, and manuscript preparation.<br><br>This position offers an opportunity to participate in research projects, depending on experience and willingness to learn. These tasks would include device design and manufacturing (3D printing, soft lithography, micromachining) and in vivo experimentation. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate and undergraduate students.<br><br>Applicants must have a BS (MS preferred) in an engineering or biomedical-related discipline, two years of experience in a laboratory setting, and an ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team; with strong organization, communication, problem-solving and time management skills. Applicants must be willing to work with rodent models including basic handling and surgical techniques. High proficiency in English is required. Excellent experimental and engineering skills relevant to the project (in particular design and fabrication) are strongly preferred. Exceptional candidates willing to learn in vivo experiment techniques will also be accepted.<br><br>The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children.
