Overview

***This position will be physically located in Iraq in support of LOGCAP.***

  • Under the direction of the MWR Recreation Supervisor, the MWR Recreation Specialist Lead organizes, supervises and leads recreation activities and/or programs. Provides leadership amongst the recreation center staff and ensures daily operations are performed as per established polices & practices. Lead ensures a high quality product for the customer. Lead acts as the primary liaison between the recreation facility and the community by providing courteous, friendly and professional assistance to patrons. This position ensures facilities remain clean and serviceable.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, Organizes and executes activities, special events, and /or programs.
  • Sets up equipment for various practices and games.
  • Maintains accurate event/facility attendance records for programs.
  • Handles telephone inquiries, greets visitors and provides customer program information.
  • Provides oversight of GFE (Government Furnished Equipment).
  • Ensures the facilities remain clean and promotes a customer friendly atmosphere.
  • Provides leadership, guidance and training to less experienced staff.
  • Enforces facility rules.
  • Must be willing to work on holidays, short notices, all shifts, overtime and assigned to any MWR location in Kuwait. Vacation scheduling will also be dictated by mission requirements and determined independent from spouse if applicable.
  • Performs other duties as required and directed by MWR Management. Duties include but not limited to assisting other department sections to ensure mission requirements, working different shift patterns, and cross leveling into different MWR job titles and duties when directed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and host nation Driver’s License, is required.
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination:
    • To be qualified for this position you must comply with USCENTCOM MOD 16 that requires proof that you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, as defined by the CDC or host country requirements. As of now, to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 you must have received either two doses of Pfizer BioNTech Vaccine, two doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford Vaccine, two doses of Moderna Vaccine, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine, and two weeks must have elapsed after the final dose was administered. This definition may change in accordance with CDC guidelines. Compliance with this government requirement is an essential function of the position and is a condition of employment.
  • Experience:
    • Employee must have strong knowledge base of recreation, sport and leisure program and equipment.
    • They should have at least 2 years customer service field experience.
    • They must have past experience in planning and executing recreational events.
  • Skills:
    • Must exhibit excellent organization, communication and leadership skills.
    • Capable of effectively communicating technical information in English, both written and verbal.
    • Must have the ability to quickly solve problems.
    • Requires strong interpersonal skills to work with internal and external customers.
    • Requires a collaborative work style, fostering cooperation and teamwork.
    • Must exercise discretion and good judgment at all times.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Supervises team of Recreation Specialists
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
