The Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) takes the responsibility of the overall management of Radiation Protection at Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) environment and assures the implementation and fulfilment of the protection rules, safety rules and regulations during the normal operation, emergency and start-up/shutdown and during the use of radioactive sources/equipment.

β€’ The radiation protection officer will be required to supervise, for example, the setting up of barriers around controlled areas and the explanation of local rules, the provision of personal dosimetry services, dose rate monitoring, the transport and storage of sources, and the implementation of emergency response plans, including those for misplaced or lost sources
β€’ The RPO should supervise radiation protection measures relating to gauge operation, maintenance, leak testing, and exchange, storage of sources and the explanation of local & company rules.
β€’ Acts as a focal point of contact at the NORM facility in radiation protection matters and be the expert in issues related to the plant’s radiation protection.
β€’ Ensures that the FANR regulations as well as the relevant COMPANY rules and conditions in the radiological protection area are complied with and Provision of radiological advice to personnel on Regulations and other relevant legislation/best practice.
β€’ Develops and prepares audit documentations and assures their availability for audit process and implementation. Highlights to management any concern related to record system data.
β€’ Ensures that rules are drawn up to prevent people from being exposed to unacceptable or unnecessary ionising radiation.
β€’ Reviews laboratory test results with respect to radiation and advise required adjustment on the chemicals and operating parameters according to limits required and arranges for adjustments to be carried out to maintain safe and quality standards.
