Provost Dubai

The University of Birmingham’s heritage as Britain’s first civic university is combined with an ambitious agenda to continue the transformation of the University. The 2021 Research Excellence Framework saw Birmingham achieve major improvements on all measures, rising 12 places to 10th overall in the Russell Group. Most recently, the University played a leading role in the hugely successful Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, confirming our long-standing role at the heart of an ambitious, dynamic and thriving city-region. Building on all of this, our new Strategic Framework, has set a highly-ambitious strategy to become a global top 50 institution by 2030.

Our campus in Dubai plays a major part in our global mission, building further our legacy of connecting the brightest students from across the world by offering an outstanding education experience delivered by excellent teachers in a University renowned for research and teaching.

The campus is moving towards its sixth academic year, having opened in 2018 and moved into our purpose-built campus in Dubai International Academic City, the world’s largest free zone dedicated solely to education, in January of 2022. Offering foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and professional educational programmes across a range of academic disciplines, we are proud to be the first Russell Group University to have established a campus in the United Arab Emirates and to be the only global top 100 university with a campus in Dubai. With plans to reach a student population of over 3,500 students, the University of Birmingham Dubai acts as a hub for outreach and engagement in the UAE and the wider region.
