Primary Location

: Egypt-Cairo Organizational Setting:
The main aim of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO’s) Representation in Egypt, which is headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist the Government of Egypt to develop policies, programmes and projects to improve food security and nutrition, promote sustainable agricultural development, reduce rural poverty, develop inclusive agri-food systems and strengthen livelihood resilience – in line with the Organization’s Strategic Objectives and United Nations’ global and Government of Egypt’s national Sustainable Development Goals.
The position is located in various FAO intervention governorates in upper Egypt.

Reporting Lines:

Under the overall supervision of FAOR-EGY, the direct supervision of the project Manager, the project Chief Technical Advisor (CTA), the technical senior land and water officer (FAO-RNE), and in close collaboration with all partners (government, local authorities, NGOs, private sector, and others) and the technical team of the project, and the team of FAO Office in Egypt.

Technical Focus:

The focus of this role is to provide agricultural, irrigation and value chain related technical guidance to the assigned governorate specialists and to ensure implementation of assigned project activities within the planned timeframes and as per the description in the project work plans. This position will also ensure close follow up with the assigned project stakeholders.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Coordinate the implementation of the work plan activities in close coordination with the immediate supervisor
• Contribute to the establishment of annual and monthly workplans
• Oversee and lead the execution of work plans of the technical specialist team for the implementation of various agriculture, irrigation, farmer field schools (FFS) and socio economic related activities within the planned timeframes
• Liaise with government officials from various directorates of relevance to the assigned works
• Facilitate the organization of training sessions and workshops for project beneficiaries on topics such as irrigation modernization, crop production, post-harvest handling, and marketing.
• Lead and oversee the implementation of farm visits for project beneficiaries as and when needed in line with the established work plans
• Identify potential synergy and collaboration opportunities with other development entities within the assigned governorate and sharing with project management team ideas and initiatives for eventual successful partnerships
• Provide overall support to farmers and other project beneficiaries in implementing project activities.
• Ensure the timely and effective implementation of all irrigation and agricultural productivity enhancement activities. This may involve overseeing the establishment of irrigation systems, the distribution of agricultural inputs, and the training of farmers.
• Coordinate with local government agencies, agricultural extension workers, and other stakeholders to ensure the project is implemented efficiently and effectively.
• Coordinate with the project stakeholders for the scheduling of activities, assigning tasks to project staff, and communicating with beneficiaries
• Conduct field visits and provide regular feedback to the project management team on project progress.
• Support and assist in the development and implementation of project monitoring and evaluation plans.
• Lead and oversees the collection of progress data required for the monthly monitoring purposes.
• Support the project management team in developing and implementing strategies to increase project impact and sustainability.
• Prepare regular project reports and contribute to the development of project proposals and other project-related documents

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree in irrigation engineering, agriculture, agribusiness, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in agricultural development, preferably in a field-based role.
• Working knowledge of English.
• National of Egypt.
