The CNM practices under the supervision of one or more collaborating physicians working as a laborist in a hospital setting.</span></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Assesses the physical condition of pregnant patients who present to OBES with acute and emergent obstetric needs, including normal labor, rupture of membranes, preterm labor, hypertension, fetal distress, and other potentially life-threatening conditions.</li><li>Recognizes deviations from normal pregnancy and formulates a medical plan based on the patient’s condition.</li><li>Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the obstetric patient’s clinical problems and health care needs.</li><li>Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.</li><li>Consults with physician(s) as needed regarding patient health care plans and treatment.</li><li>Collaborates and makes referrals to consulting medical services to provide treatment for patients in OBES.</li><li>Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.</li><li>Ability to provide care to the population served.</li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.</li><li>Demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills.</li><li>Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area.</li><li>Demonstrated teaching and research skills</li></ul><p><br></p><p><span>Licensure to practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife/Certified Nurse Midwife/Country of origin Midwifery Certification BoardΒ©</span></p>
