VSE is looking for a welder with a specialty in working on maritime vessels for its Federal &amp; Defense Services Business sector, to support the Iraq Vessel Maintenance and Repair Program. This position shall have duties in the in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of Iraqi Navy 35m Patrol Boats. This position is located in Umm Qasr, Iraq and reports to the VSE In-Country Manager in Umm Qasr. <p><br></p>This position supports the Iraqi Navy (IqN) in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of their naval vessels (35m Patrol Boats, 60m Offshore Support Vessels, 27 ft. Defenders, Dredgers) as well as shore facilities.  <p><br></p>This position is contingent upon contract award. <p><br></p>DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES : <p><br></p><ul><li>Use of Metal Arc Welding in the manufacturing process. </li><li>Read and understand blueprints. </li><li>Must be able to read and follow operating instructions provided. </li><li>Understand AWS weld symbols. </li><li>Welding parts in various directions. </li><li>Take measurements. </li><li>Follow all quality and safety procedures </li><li>Provide schedules of work, to include hours per task, to management. </li><li>Use a variety of equipment and methods to permanently join together various metal parts.  </li><li>Perform manual welding procedures using Shielded Metal Arc welding (SMAW) or Oxy-Acetylene torches, or use semiautomatic systems such as wire feeder machines.  </li><li>Set up and use welding equipment in a variety of positions (such as flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead. </li><li>Utilize welding methods including Arc, Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Submerged Arc, Carbon Arc, and Gas (Oxy-Acetylene).  </li><li>Perform pre- and post-heating, induction heating, surface hardening, stress relieving, and welding inspections.  </li><li>Perform soldering and brazing operations.  </li><li>Must be able to work with various types of metals, to include all types of steels, aluminum, copper, monel, copper-nickel, bronzes, and cast iron. </li><li>Lead a team of third-party nationals with backgrounds in the above duties, in carrying out tasks. </li><li>Fuse weld stainless steel. </li><li>Weld thin gauge aluminum. </li><li>Read blueprints, understand weld symbols and take measurements. </li></ul><p><br></p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  <p><br></p><ul><li>High School / GED</li><li>Vocational/technical training in welding </li><li>At least 5 years of similar experience </li><li>Excellent communications and analytical skills </li><li>Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs </li><li>Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software.</li></ul><p><br></p><strong><u>Other</u></strong><p><br></p><ul><li>The selected applicant will be subject to a background check and drug testing.</li></ul><p><br></p>Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
