Job Description
<p>The Marine Superintendent is designated by the Head of Fleet Management to perform the duties of lead internal auditor, lead incident investigator, alternate designated person ashore, and alternate company security officer. The Marine Superintendent ensures that the vessels continue to meet the standards and criteria required by clients, class, and statutory regulations and are adequately manned by qualified, skilled staff.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><p>The responsibilities of the Marine Superintendent include but are not limited to:</p><p><br></p><p>• Ensure that Company owned and managed vessels are operated in a safe, efficient, and in full compliance with Class and statutory regulations.</p><p>• Liaise with port captain and vessel masters with reference to certification, safety equipment, etc.;</p><p>• Ensure that all mandatory procedures i.e. risk assessments, permits to work, etc. are used effectively and filed for audit purposes.</p><p>• Read Voyage Instructions and guide Masters in respect of Navigation, Weather/Voyage Monitoring</p><p>• Provide vessels with necessary information regarding cargo-related matters.</p><p>• Assist vessels with stowage/loading / discharging plans.</p><p>• Ensure that the procedures are established for monitoring all shipboard personnel’s qualifications, experience, training requirements, and records of qualification, experience, and attendance at courses, seminars, and conferences by shipboard personnel, are available with the Company.</p><p>• Navigation Advisor to the Fleet and responsible for setting Navigational Standards to be maintained</p><p>• Handle cargo & crew related cases with P&I Club.</p><p>• Provide HSE Management System information to the Company Organization and support its effort to develop, implement and improve the QHSE KPI.</p><p>• Ensure that the procedures are established for all vessels in the fleet to have sufficient and competent crews who fully understand their roles and responsibilities and who are capable of working as effective teams.</p><p>• Have an appraisal system that sets criteria for promotions and requirements for succession planning of shipboard personnel.</p><p>• Have maintenance and operational standards for all vessels in the fleet to enable the vessels to operate safely and without any incident or detention;</p><p>• Effective means of monitoring compliance with such procedures shall be established;</p><p>• An effective emergency-preparedness system for fleet and shore management is established and regularly tested.</p><p>• An effective reporting, investigation, and follow-up method is established to learn from near misses and incidents and prevent a recurrence.</p><p>• An effective process for inspection and audits is adopted for the vessels managed by the Company;</p><p>• Ensure that vessels carry the required publications, procedures, operational manuals, and other documentation required by flag and other regulatory bodies and that these are updated as required;</p><p>• Carry out Cat 1 investigations with the Master / Safety officer;</p><p>• Carry out Cat 2-5 accident investigation;</p><p>• Plan & carry out audits in the office and onboard Company vessels;</p><p>• Plan & carry out internal audits on board the Company’s vessels.</p><p> </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><p>· Sailed for a minimum one year as a master mariner </p><p>· Experienced in dry cargo vessel management</p><p>· Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Administration or related field</p><p>· Onshore experience as a Marine Superintendent – 2 years’ minimum </p><p><br></p>
