Job Description
Synopsis
To lead and provide tax support for Etihad Aviation Group (‘EAG’) in a range of taxation areas including planning, advisory, compliance, reporting and audit defence matters, with a focus on “hands-on” management of UAE compliances.
Accountabilities
• Ensuring performance of EAG’s UAE VAT and other tax compliances including computation of tax, payment of tax, and filing of returns;
• Analysing transactional data and validating the correctness thereof to ensure compliance with tax requirements;
• Working closely with multiple teams, such as Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Treasury, Revenue Accounting, operational business units, etc. to ensure complete and accurate tax reporting;
• Managing tax audits, reviews and disputes in UAE and across other jurisdictions and preparing adequate documentation in response;
• Monitoring updates on tax laws and ensuring compliance with them;
• Working closely with “outstation” finance teams on tax issues (“outstations” is the term used for overseas branches of airlines);
• Working closely with teams on various systems to ensure complete and accurate tax reporting;
• Advising on tax consequences arising from contracts and similar documentation, and in relation to new business initiatives;
• Maintaining internal records and complying with ‘ICFR’ and other internal reporting obligations;
• Performing internal processes, such as procurement formalities, budgeting, etc. including managing selection and appointment of external tax consultants;
• Identifying weaknesses and process improvement opportunities;
• Arranging Tax Residence Certificates from the UAE Federal Tax Authority and other similar tax documentation to avail of tax exemptions;
• Preparation for the implementation of Corporate Income Tax in the UAE and the OECD’s Pillar 2 regime;
• Support in relation to special projects, such as the implementation of new taxes, ad hoc matters, internal audits of the tax function, etc.
Education & Experience
• Chartered Accountant (or other relevant professional chartered qualification (e.g., CA, ACA, CPA)) with 7-8 years of experience in tax compliances;
• “Hands-on” experience in UAE VAT and other tax compliances, including preparation, review and submission of returns, dealing with the UAE Federal Tax Authority, etc.;
• Good practical knowledge of international taxation;
• Confidence and experience in operating in an international business environment (for example, having worked for a multi-national company or international advisory firm);
• The applicant must demonstrate a pro-active nature and a self-starter mentality;
• Experience in dealing with requests from, or audits conducted by, tax authorities;
• Appreciation and understanding of the OECD’s Pillar 2 initiative and its impacts on multi-nationals;
• Experience working in a dynamic cross-functional team;
• Prior experience and knowledge of SAP ERP systems and interfaces is an advantage;
• EAG’s workforce at its head office in Abu Dhabi is drawn from a diverse range of nationalities and English is the working language used there; accordingly, the Tax Manager would be expected to have a suitable standard of written and spoken English;
• This role is likely to require occasional international business travel and flexibility to ensure that deadlines are met.
