Junior Network Engineer

Job Description

Under general supervision, the Network Engineer manages a UNIX, Novell, VMS, Windows or similar computer network. Performs a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to enable users to maximize productivity. Assists in planning and development of network resources.

Network Engineer to design and implement systems that ensure the effective connectivity for the respective locations on the Local Area Networks (LANs), MPLS and Wide Area Networks (WANs) that service the business needs of QFZA.

Network Management

· Design, secure approval for, and give operational effect to systems and procedures that ensure the effective connectivity for the respective locations on the Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) that service the business needs of the organisation.

· Monitor on-going operations and support of the Network Infrastructure for Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Network Operating Systems, Internet services, MPLS, etc.

· Design and implement Internet connectivity solutions that ensure external interfaces provide integrity and security against unauthorised entry to internal systems.

· Assesses plans and designs the specifications and detailed requirements for new LAN/WAN systems or for upgrades of existing LAN/WAN systems and Network Infrastructure. Determines overall hardware, Network Operating systems and software requirements for systems and ensures necessary actions have been taken.

· Plans, establishes and maintains all necessary network operation and administration policies, procedures and standard that ensure the safety and security of network systems, services and all related equipment.

· Ensures all network systems documentation is available and updated to include all modifications/upgrades etc. at all times. Reviews Vendor’s submitted documentation for completeness and accuracy.

· Analyse system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems.

Access and Operational Procedures

Sets up accesses and operational procedures for the organisation’s current domains and plans and monitor the activities of the Administrator.

· Network Engineer scope includes:

· Review network performance continuously in order to identify opportunities for enhancements and upgrades that stretch and exploit the full potential of the organisation’s existing network technological capability. 

Monitor the continuing performance of the hardware modules to ensure optimum operating status and to troubleshoot · problems.

· No delegated authority, except as and when temporarily delegated.

· Responsibility for trouble shooting and support of IT Network Related problems.

· Report safety issues when and where noticed.

· Support operations to ensure all decisions, contacts and agreements executed in accordance with company policies and procedures.

· Develop (together with IT Operation Manager, IT Projector Manager and the IT Director a comprehensive controls compliance program.

Skills

Education and Certifications

· Undergraduate degree in, Computer/Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent

· Network Engineer related professional courses. CISCO, HP, Juniper..etc.

· Microsoft server administration – 2008 / 2012, AD, DNS, DHCP, DFS, Power shell scripting

required: Microsoft: MCITP, MCSE, CISCO or VMWare

Experience

· Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language

· Strong analytical and computer skills

· Ability to effectively manage contract resources, External Service Provider(s), Process Owner and User relationships

· Ability to adapt to time pressures

· Familiarity with ITIL framework

· Experienced with Risk Assessment and Mitigation concepts and principles

· 7years experience working with Networks, Email, Infrastructure, etc. preferably with Microsoft / Cisco / HP Servers and Storage Area Network etc. equipment

– Knowledge and experience with Network management Tools & Utilities preferred Cisco CCNA, CCNP, MCSE, MCSA Messaging or equivalent certification.

– Good experience with Microsoft BackOffice server products (Windows Server 2003 / 2008, Exchange 2007 / 2010, AD, DNS, ISA, IIS, DHCP)

– Knowledge of Hardware Servers and Storage Area Networks, preferred HP products or equivalent systems.

· Working knowledge of standard industry commercial and charter scenarios

· Working knowledge of controls concepts and principles
