The Design Engineer role is based in Egypt for up to 12 months and will involve working in Cairo, with visits to Qena and Sohag<p><br></p><strong>Responsibilities Include</strong><ul><li> Providing technical oversight of the production of preliminary designs, detailed designs, tender documents and tender evaluations for water and wastewater treatment and network projects including:</li><ul><li> Technical checks and quality assurance of the designs and all deliverables </li><li> Reviewing comments and managing updates of deliverables to meet the requirements of the project stakeholders (client and their representatives, the beneficiary and the donor) </li><li> Present and justify designs and deliverables to project stakeholders </li><li> Identify requirements for additional technical resources to complete technical reviews, and manage their inputs within the allocated budget and required programme </li><li> Identify opportunities to incorporate innovative design solutions and international best practice within the country context. </li></ul><li> Working closely with the Team Leader to manage the programme for the production of designs and associated deliverables </li><li> Maintaining close communication and a strong working relationship with project stakeholders, to ensure they are consulted and brought into key decisions </li><li> Reporting on progress and status to the client and other relevant stakeholders </li><li> Maintaining close coordination with design sub-consultants, and manage their inputs for the completion and necessary updates of deliverables within the agreed programme and to the required quality </li><li> Ensuring Health, Safety and Welfare is considered in design deliverables – working to Mott MacDonald’s global standards. </li><li> Ensuring sustainability and environmental risks are considered and mitigated during design phases in accordance with Mott MacDonald’s global standards. </li><li> Supporting capacity building activities aimed at improving management capabilities and performance of water companies </li></ul><p><br></p><strong>Candidate Specification</strong><p><br></p><strong>The Following Experience/capabilities Are Essential For This Role</strong><p><br></p><ul><li> University degree in engineering related to water or wastewater </li><li> Extensive experience in the water sector </li><li> Strong client and stakeholder relationship building skills. </li><li> Experience leading a design team for large and complex Water and Sanitation programmes in developing countries. </li><li> Extensive experience with the preliminary and detailed design of water and wastewater infrastructure </li><li> Experience with capital investment projects </li><li> Excellent people skills with confidence to take part in high level meetings with public and private sector clients. </li><li> The ability to respect and work well with people from different cultures and backgrounds. </li><li> Fluent in English </li><li> Experience should include delivery of projects outside of home country </li><li> Experience should include delivering projects outside of the MENA region </li></ul><p><br></p><strong>The Following Experience/capabilities Are Desirable For This Role</strong><p><br></p><ul><li> Implementation of water and sanitation projects in Egypt </li><li> An ability to speak and read/write Arabic would be an advantage </li><li> Regional experience in Egypt, North Africa or the Middle East. </li></ul><p><br></p><strong>Job Profile</strong><p><br></p>This water and sanitation project in Egypt is providing support to two water companies in Upper Egypt to build management and operational capacity, and to design, procure and supervise construction of water and wastewater development projects.<p><br></p>Mott MacDonald is committed to improving people’s lives through creating and delivering tailored development solutions.
