Working with the HSE I Design Lead, Middle East, you will play a proactive, visible and diligent role during all aspects of Engineering & Design work to ensure that our teams are meeting the intent of HSE in Design Best Practice Guidance, local work instructions, and legislative requirements.  The HSE in Design Advisor is the safety conscious of the design and sets the tone and culture for HSE in Design on projects. 

In this role, you are expected to challenge the norm and encourage innovation across the design process to make our designs even safer through the lifecycle of the project seeking to eliminate and mitigate hazards which arise during construction, use, operation and maintenance, future renovation and eventual demolition of the facility, plant or infrastructure. 

  • Key responsibilities of the HSE in Design Advisor
  • Prepare the HSE in Design Execution Plan and agree the approach with the Project Manager
  • Communicate the HSE in Design Execution Plan to our design team
  • Advise team on local H&S legislation, hazards and control measures with respect to design
  • Facilitate project HSEiD training (as required)
  • Proactively support and facilitate competency assessment of internal teams and subconsultants
  • Ensuring coordination between multi-disciplinary design teams:
    • Attend key design team meetings when appropriate
    • Review minutes/action & decision lists arising from design meetings
    • Review of project design documentation including drawings, reports and Design Risk Assessments
    • Liaise with Designers to get updates including information about issues or design changes that could potentially impact on health and safety
    • Work with the Designers in ensuring HSE in Design is considered in evaluation of design options and to solve design risk problems.
    • Apply the General Principles of Prevention
  • Facilitate HSEiD Review Workshops.  Prepare HSE Workshop Reports and Design Gateway Statements
  • Carry out intermittent and detailed reviews of the design risk registers (HERR) as appropriate project phases
  • Escalate to the Project Manager any significant design risk impacts and or/where there is a risk to project delivery
  • Collation of information for the HSE File (where appropriate) during the construction phase
  • Share the successes and lessons learned within the HSE in Design community

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Experience in facilitating HSE in Design workshops.
  • Relevant experience in design & engineering, construction operations, safety or risk management.
  • Proven professional experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal relations and personnel management skills.
  • The ability to create collaborative teams.
  • Working knowledge in applicable regulatory compliance across all countries in the Middle East operations.
