Job Description
<p>The National Construction Academy (NCA) is currently recruiting for an Executive Dean. The Executive Dean will be responsible for the academic and administrative leadership and management of the Academy, to achieve its goals, and to further the mission and strategic aims of the Academy.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><em>1. Academic Leadership</em></strong></p><p>The Executive Dean has overall accountability for the academic programs, including:</p><p>路 Ensuring the quality of teaching and the provision of effective learning services for trainees, in conjunction with the Academic Director;</p><p>路 Establishing and maintaining good relationships with current trainees and with former trainees as members of the Academy鈥檚 alumni;</p><p>路 Exercising of the relevant powers and responsibilities of Executive Deans as set out in the Policies and Procedures of the Academy.</p><p>The Executive Dean is responsible for:</p><p>路 Developing and implementing a clear mission statement for the Academy and the strategic initiatives that must be taken to achieve those goals;</p><p>路 Ensuring that the Academy achieves its objectives and key targets;</p><p>路 Providing academic and administrative leadership and general superintendence of the divisions within the Academy;</p><p>路 Ensuring that the appropriately directed quality research is carried out within the Academy.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><strong><em>2. Governance of the Academy</em></strong></p><p>The Executive Dean is responsible for:</p><p>路 Setting the strategic direction of the Academy and for ensuring that appropriate operational plans have been developed at departmental levels to achieve the goals and specific objectives of the Academy;</p><p>路 Ensuring that appropriate structures and mechanisms are in place for the governance of the Academy;</p><p>路 Ensuring that a plan is in place for the staffing profile of the Academy and that the recruitment, induction, assessment, training and development and succession planning of all staff within the Academy is effectively managed;</p><p>路 Conducting the annual appraisal of direct reports;</p><p>路 Ensuring the Academy complies with relevant statutes, accreditations, rules, agreements and policies;</p><p>路 Ensuring the Academy complies with equity and workplace health and safety policies;</p><p>路 Ensuring the Academy’s finances are managed responsibly and strategically within a budget agreed with the management.</p><p> <strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>3. Representation to the External Community</em></strong></p><p>The Executive Dean is the key representative of the Academy to the external community and is responsible for:</p><p>路 Ensuring that the Academy establish, maintain and enhance effective relations with government, the business community, the relevant professions, employer groups, trainees and their families;</p><p>路 Pursuing, in accordance with relevant Academy policies and procedures, appropriate avenues for increasing revenue from sources other than the mainstream program.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Education/Experience Requirements</strong></p><p>At least 5+ years of experience in academic and general administration and management, or any related setting, to become familiar with academic programs, policies, and regulations necessary to hold authority over the activities of an educational institution. Having a proven track record as a leader, teacher and public servant in a variety of settings is critical. An Executive Dean will need to have teaching experience, and a PhD or equivalent from an accredited institution.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Skills</strong></p><p>An academic dean must have very strong skills in verbal and written communication, organization, budget preparation, developing and implementing goals, managing resources, strategic planning and interdisciplinary scholarly skills.</p>
