Position: Education Assistant

Location: Aden, Lahj & Al Dhale’e FO

Grade: 5

Contract Length: till Dec 2023 (with a possibility of renewal)

The Opportunity:

The Education Project Assistant supports the implementation and monitoring of Gateway education activities in SC education target areas. The Education Project Assistant is the interface between local communities and Gateway. He/she is responsible for ensuring that all Gateway program activities are implemented to a high standard, in full consultation with local government authorities (mainly district-level and school leadership personnel) and local communities, and in a timely manner. The Education Project Assistant will document project achievements, challenges, and lessons learned and will submit his or her reports to the Education Project Coordinator.

Key Areas of Responsibilities: 

Programme Support:

  • Implements and assists in implementation of formal & non-formal basic education activities in Gateway program areas in close coordination with the relevant people in the community as outlined in the detailed implementation plan
  • Visit classrooms for classroom observation, provide feedback to teachers, track students attendance in formal schools and monitor student transitions from NFE centers to formal schools Provides technical support to the staff of the Ministry of Education, Governorate Education Office, District Education Office, and School Leadership for the improvement of utilization of education services in target areas
  • Coordinates with community leaders (mainly FMCs & CECs), school teachers, school management staff, and partner organizations to implement educational and child protection activities and works closely with them to improve the quality of education services
  • Trains community stakeholders and monitors the implementation of educational activities 
  • Collects and analyses project-related data and keeps up-to-date the filing system for education project to show that the educational activities have achieved their objectives
  • Supports all relevant MEAL activities related to planning and implementing baseline, midline, and end line assessments and reporting on the same
  • Supports the implementation of school development, community engagement and students engagement initiative such as SB2S and SBCC, girls club, co-curricular activities, inclusive services  
  • Conducts child protection and child rights training and code of conduct for teachers and volunteers 
  • Prepares reports for the Education Project Coordinator with statistical and narrative information on the progress of the project in the target communities 
  • Works in close collaboration with other SCI staff (Wash, Protection, Health, etc.) in the target areas – develops joint work plans.
  • Supports SC-trained volunteers, teachers, and children in the implementation of project activities 
  • Provides technical assistance to other programs when requested by the supervisor.
  • Supports administrative tasks such as preparing Purchase Requests
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

Essential:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education or in any other closely related field 
  • Experience working as a teacher or development professional in education or closely related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience in working with children in a responsible and caring manner
  • Experience in monitoring and reporting community development programs
  • Strong understanding of community development processes
  • A working knowledge of computers including the use of MS Office Suite

Desirable:

 Very good written and oral communication skills in English.
