Director of Central Research Science Laboratory

<p>The American University of Beirut is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Science Laboratory Research Director for the Kamal A. Shair Central Research Science Laboratory (KAS CRSL) (http://website.aub.edu.lb/fas/crsl/Pages/index.aspx ). The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing and leading the KAS CRSL, a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary research facility that serves various faculties and departments at AUB. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></p><p>The Science Laboratory Research Director will be responsible for: </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Strategic Leadership:</strong> Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the research laboratory, aligning with the overall vision and goals of the institution, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and promoting research excellence. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Financial Management:</strong> Secure external funding through grant applications, partnerships, and other sources to support the operations and growth of the laboratory, manage budgets, and ensure the efficient allocation of resources. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Facility and Equipment Management:</strong> Oversee the purchasing, maintenance, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment, develop and implement preventive maintenance plans, and ensure the facility remains up-to-date with cutting-edge technologies and instrumentation. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Safety and Compliance:</strong> Establish, enforce, and maintain standard operating protocols to ensure the laboratory meets all relevant safety, ethical, and regulatory guidelines, and create a safe working environment for all laboratory users. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Training and Support:</strong> Provide technical guidance, training, and support to laboratory users, including faculty, staff, and students, to help them effectively utilize laboratory equipment and resources. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Collaboration and Networking:</strong> Actively cooperate and coordinate with other research laboratories within the institution, as well as with external partners in academia and industry, to foster collaborative research efforts and enhance the laboratory’s reputation and impact. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Performance Evaluation and Reporting:</strong> Regularly monitor research outcomes, publications, and user satisfaction, and report on the laboratory’s achievements to institutional stakeholders and funding agencies. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS: </strong></p><p>The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Educational Background:</strong> A PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific discipline, demonstrating a strong foundation in the principles and techniques employed within the research laboratory. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Technical Expertise:</strong> In-depth knowledge of and experience with a wide range of laboratory equipment, techniques, and research methodologies relevant to the laboratory’s focus areas, enabling the candidate to provide guidance and support to users. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Management and Leadership Experience:</strong> A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within a research laboratory or related setting, demonstrating the ability to effectively manage resources, personnel, and projects, as well as foster a collaborative and productive research environment. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Grant Writing and Fundraising Skills:</strong> Proven experience in writing successful grant proposals, securing external funding from various sources, and managing budgets to ensure the financial sustainability and growth of the research laboratory. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Interpersonal and Communication Skills:</strong> Excellent written and oral communication abilities, as well as strong interpersonal skills, enabling the candidate to effectively engage with a diverse range of laboratory users, collaborators, and stakeholders, and to clearly convey complex scientific information to various audiences. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>APPLICATION PROCESS:</strong></p><p>Interested candidates should submit the following application materials: </p><p>- A cover letter that highlights their qualifications and demonstrates how their background aligns with the position requirements.</p><p> – A comprehensive curriculum vitae detailing their relevant experience and accomplishments.
