Cancer care in Jordan is focused on treatment, with less effort being placed on other elements of the cancer continuum, such as prevention, early detection, palliative, and survivorship care. Despite several initiatives, Jordan does not have a national cancer control plan; although a draft was developed in 2010 and reviewed in 2013. In countries where a national and comprehensive cancer control program has been implemented, cancer care planning and treatment outcomes are improving, supporting the need for Jordan to pursue this strategic goal. Organized cancer control, as promoted by international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), offers the best approach for healthcare systems to be more integrated, cost-effective, and efficient in preventing and managing cancer. For cancer patients this would improve the care continuum, ensuring a comprehensive and integrated approach that enhances cure rates, relieves pain, and improves quality of life.

Work to be performed

Output 1: Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines (GPACCM)

Coordinate the consultative process of the working group of oncologists and other partners representing key public and private institutions to conduct a situation analysis and write an implementation plan for GPACCM.

Coordinate the consultative process of the national committee members and other partners representing key public and private institutions for the implementation and monitoring of the GPACCM initiative by supporting with the organization of the missions, events, field visits and meetings.

Provide data inputs for GPACCM Project Management Tool by producing detailed monthly and quarterly GPACCM initiative reports outlining the activities relating to the work plan.

Deliverable 1.1: Submit the final version of the assessment and reports to conduct a situation analysis and write an implementation plan. based on the above-mentioned actions.

Output 2: Develop Childhood Cancer protocols and develop capacity building material

Coordinate the discussion session of paediatric oncologists for the development process of the national treatment protocols agreed by the working group of paediatric oncologists: Burkitt Lymphoma, Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia, Retinoblastoma.

Coordinate the development of the training materials and health care providers capacity building plan of the already developed three national guidelines of childhood cancer: Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL), Low-grade Glioma (LGG), and Wilm’s tumor (WT).

Deliverable 2.1: Submit the final versions of the clinical protocols

Output 3: Cancer Registry – childhood cancer data

Provide technical expertise to the MOH in strengthening the cancer control registry and improve the data collection for childhood cancer.; , including exploring feasibility of SJ CARES registry module.

Deliverable 3.1: Submit a report on the steps taken to improve the cancer control registry

Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

Educational Qualifications

Qualifications required:

University Degree in Public Health, Health Service Management, Epidemiology or related field, with bachelor’s in medicine, pharmacy, nursing or midwifery.

Desirable: Master’s Degree in Public Health, Health Service Management, Epidemiology or related field, with bachelor’s in medicine, pharmacy, nursing or midwifery.

Experience

At least 5 years of experience and knowledge on cancer control in the Jordanian context.

Skills/Technical Skills And Knowledge

Excellent Knowledge of the Jordanian health system and cancer prevention and control programs.

Relevant work experience with national governmental institutions, NGOs or universities

Languages And Level Required

Excellent command of English and Arabic (Read – Write – Speak).

Location

Amman, Jordan

Planned timelines (Subject to confirmation)

5 Months

Start date: 20 August 2023

End date: 15 January 2024

Medical clearance

The selected Consultant will be expected to provide a medical certificate of fitness for work.

Travel

The Consultant is not expected to travel.
