Main Responsibilities:
Unit/Clinic Management
– Ensure cleanliness of the working unit and supervise ancillary staff as required.
– Coordinate nursing services with services of other disciplines.
– Ensure that infection control and waste management protocols are followed.
– Promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and co-workers including the implementation of infection control policies of the Clinics.
– Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other members of the health care team.
– Escort visitors, Senior Management and other government officials at their visit to the medical centres whenever required.
– Maintains an acceptable standard of attendance and reports to work on time.
Patient Care & Service Excellence
– Carries out physician’s orders and reviews nursing and medical orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
– Prepares, administers, and documents the administration of oral, parental and topical medications as prescribed by the physician.
– Ensure that patients / family are provided with adequate and appropriate information and reassurance and consent is taken prior to medical and nursing intervention.
– To be knowledgeable of therapeutic effects, usual dosages, contraindications, side effects and adverse reactions for all drugs and parental fluids administered.
– Maintains accountability for medications and controlled drugs.
– Intervenes appropriately in clinical emergency situations, initiates emergency resuscitative measures and assists with codes.
– Sets up equipment for and assists physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
– Assists with transfer of patients within the health care facilities.
– Performs a systematic initial and ongoing assessment of the patient’s physical and psychosocial status, specific to the age of the patient.
– Teaches patients and their families with emphasis on compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimen. Supports families in meeting the patient’s psychosocial needs.
– Demonstrates priority setting skills and timeliness in responding to patient needs.
– Acts as a patient advocate and develops supportive relationships with patient/family maintaining a professional role.
– Uses verbal and written communication in an accurate concise and timely manner that conveys respect for the patient/family/visitor/staff.
