Overview
We are seeking a biodiversity specialist to join our Environmental Biodiversity Division within Environmental Protection.
The Biodiversity Consultant will provide high level consultations to support Company strategies and policies in Biodiversity and related aspects. The candidate shall support the implementation of the Corporate Policy on Biodiversity, and lead projects or research initiatives in the field of biodiversity and challenges related to delivering biodiversity and ecosystem services net positive outcomes in the Company’s operational areas. The consultant will also support facility operations, assessing new environmental technologies for Saudi Aramco applications, updating Saudi Aramco engineering standards and procedures, leading biodiversity audits, reviewing project designs and environmental impact assessments, reviewing of environmental permits, and assuring Saudi Aramco compliance with the governmental agencies’ environmental regulations in relation to biodiversity.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide high level consultations to support Company strategies and policies in biodiversity.
- Oversee the development and implementation of the Corporate Biodiversity, and lead new technologies or research initiatives in the field of Biodiversity.
- Support the professional development of young Saudi biologists in areas related to environmental assessment, management, and technologies.
- Establishing business goals and biodiversity enhancement opportunities,
- Conducting research and interpreting on biodiversity and policy,
- Evaluating ecosystem services and nature-based solutions,
- Interpreting International and National Biodiversity guidelines and legislation for the Company.
- Performing research tasks of significant technical complexity, as well as developing and implementing innovative and creative technical solutions.
- Interact with government and international entities pertaining to biodiversity including ESG reporting.
- Assessing new environmental technologies for Saudi Aramco applications.
- Reviewing project designs and environmental impact assessments and undertaking SWOT analysis in relation to biodiversity,
- Reviewing of environmental permits, and assuring Saudi Aramco compliance with the governmental agencies’ environmental regulations in relation to biodiversity.
Minimum Requirements
- A higher degree in biology, ecology or a related field
- 10 years professional experience in environmental fields focusing on biodiversity.
- Participation in International or National conferences related to biodiversity and relevant publications.
- Knowledge and expertise of:
- EIA, EcIA or ESHIA.
- Mentoring and supporting early career biodiversity specialists
- IPIECA (or equivalent), in Kingdom or international guidelines for protecting biodiversity
- An aspect of biological sciences which is relevant to the ecology of the Kingdom and Company
- Proven experience in establishing and managing biodiversity projects or programs
- Excellent English communication skills to produce technically-sound reports and presentations.
- Experience in MENA is highly desirable.
- Professional membership of a biodiversity/ecological professional body.
