Job Scope
As Legal Counsel, you will be joining the Maghreb legal Team as the counsel responsible for providing all kinds of legal support – corporate and transactional – of all FMCG activities in Algeria. You will report to the country MD and regional General Counsel.
The position is based in Algiers with frequent travels to Oran.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Providing advice and support to the business and assisting the local management and global and regional legal counsels in all legal matters, including but not limited to regulatory matters, operational issues, HR matters, scalable and interfaced projects, litigation, investigation, transactional support, audit, digital initiatives, etc.
- Manage the legal support of all activities in Algeria and provide the necessary corporate legal advice.
- Participate in contract negotiations, formulation & implementation and set the negotiation strategy.
- Assure compliance with internal guidelines/polices and processes.
- Support all company projects execution from legal perspective.
- Provide advocacy on external permits and licenses for operational and logistics process.
- Contribute to standardization of contracts and contract improvement processes.
- Develop and offer legal training to business partners.
- Handling and advice on dawn raid process in support to the security leads.
- Collaborate closely with business integrity community Compliance Organization.
- Review, draft and negotiate contracts and other legal documents
- Develop, implement and update relevant legal policies and guidelines
- Resolve legal disputes.
- Hold , administrate and manage the corporate secretary work – ensure that shareholders’ meetings and related filings and documentation are timely done in compliance with applicable laws and assure cohesive engagement with GAFI.
- Represent the company before judicial tribunals, governmental agencies and in dispute resolution proceedings
- Act as data privacy officer and assure compliance of all the data related activities.
- Follow changes in laws and regulations and advise on their impact.
- Coordinate legal proceedings before courts, government agencies or other authorities so that the organization’s interests are protected
- Maintain and coordinate contacts with external lawyers and related advisors
- Maintain strong connections with business partners to share best practices to drive the business agenda.
- Assure compliance of our marketing claims and labelling information on packaging materials.
- Provide training on legal areas affecting the business
Role Requirements
Key Competencies & Skills – Standards of Leadership
- Bachelor/master’s degree in law.
- 7- 10 years of experience in a relevant position within a corporate environment.
- You must be a member of the Algerian Bar Association.
- Working proficiency in English and Arabic required.
- Thorough understanding of contractual issues, legal risks and liabilities
- Excellent understanding of Algerian laws and regulations.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Excellent Arabic & English language skills, both oral and written. French language is an added value.
- Strong drafting skills.
- Litigation background.
- Risk management.
- Good Interpersonal skills required with multinational working environment.
