<strong><u>Position Summary</u></strong><p><br></p><strong> UAE Nationals are encouraged to apply </strong><p><br></p>New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Archivist to assist with the Management of the archival collections of the Arab Center for the Study of Art, including collection appraisal, cataloguing, digitization, access and website development.<p><br></p><strong><u>Key Responsibilities</u></strong><p><br></p><ul><li> Manage the technical aspects of the Center’s websites (Akkasah and ACSA) </li><li> Implements tests and quality checks in coordination with IT services and the development team at NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai </li><li> Recommends improvements to User Experience (UX) and interface (UI) </li><li> Generates and updates content </li><li> Paying particular attention to the design of the search function </li><li> Apply appropriate reference tools for metadata and assemble finding aids to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of students, faculty and other patrons </li><li> Develops and improves subject tag vocabulary as approved by the PI, Associate Director, and the Co-PIs in their respective field </li><li> Ensures metadata is consistent across entries, to be attached to the material for search purposes on the website </li><li> Works closely with the Digital Archivist in pre-acquisition and post-acquisition evaluation and appraisal of collections, taking into consideration elements such as available physical space, condition of materials, original order, disposition, duplicates and digitization priority </li><li> Maintain cataloguing standards </li><li> Keeping up-to-date with international standards for cataloguing </li><li> Continues to evaluate standards and their appropriateness to the Center’s mission </li><li> Develops and implements creative strategies for internal communication systems that document archival workflow, accountability, and maximize efficiency </li><li> Breaks down tasks and sets cataloguing and web design goals </li><li> Delegates tasks and communicates expected timelines and milestones to the Associate Director and PIs; contribute to the Annual Report </li><li> Provides reference and liaison services to patrons </li><li> Contribute to image requests </li><li> Provides course support to NYUAD faculty in the form of guest lectures and presentations </li><li> Supervise and train newly hired archivists and student </li><li> Communicate with External Consultant for coordinating incoming collections </li><li> Assist in developing the Center Policies and Procedures for the archiving and collection management, including guidelines for archival processing, ArchivesSpace and cataloguing guidelines </li><li> Maintain communication with Archival Collections Management at NYU, DLTS at NYU, Special Collections at NYUAD, Website and Communications teams at NYUAD and NYU Shanghai </li><li> Contribute to social media via collaboration with Admin Coordinator </li><li> Ensures citational practices across platforms is consistent </li><li> Manages and relays media requests upon approval from co-PI and Associate Director in coordination with NYUAD Public Relations Office and the Research Institute </li><li> Manages selected and approved images for press requests </li></ul><p><br></p><strong><u>Qualifications</u></strong><p><br></p><strong> Required Education: </strong><p><br></p><ul><li> Bachelor’s Degree </li></ul><p><br></p><strong><u>Preferred Education</u></strong><p><br></p><ul><li> ArchivesSpace or equivalent archival CMS software </li></ul><p><br></p><strong><u>Required Experience</u></strong><p><br></p><ul><li> Work experience with archives and databases </li><li> Experience with cataloguing and working with metadata </li></ul><p><br></p><strong><u>Preferred Experience</u></strong><p><br></p><ul><li> Demonstrated knowledge of the history of art and photography of the Arab world </li><li> General knowledge of the culture and history of the region </li><li> Knowledge of research tools and reference tools </li><li> Experience with digital humanities. </li><li> Additional language skills, ideally Arabic.
