Are you ready to grow your career by using your architecture and development expertise to bridge the gap between product and business?<p><br></p>Our Professional Services Center of Excellence is seeking a talented Practice Architect who shares a real passion for technology, innovation and enthusiasm to exceed customer expectations and increase our best-in-class position.<p><br></p>Our team acquires a deep understanding of the customersβ business, its strategic goals and the specific requirements for managing a heterogeneous, hybrid cloud. As a WWCC CoE Practice Architect, the incumbents in this position have the crucial role and responsibility to drive innovation, establish best practices, standardize offerings, enable project teams, and preach execution excellence in a certain technology domain as part of project, team, focus group, or organizational strategic initiative.<p><br></p><strong>Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?</strong><p><br></p><strong>A typical day may include: </strong><p><br></p><ul><li> You’ll collaborate with project teams on larger projects. You’ll guide and advise Consulting Architects and review project designs</li><li> You’ll create/innovate unified frameworks, integration and reusable components</li><li> You’ll proactive communicate with external stakeholders (like VMware R&D teams and product leadership, VMware field Architects, etc.)</li><li> You’ll research new technologies and provide technical guidance to management and create reference architecture/solutions</li><li> You’ll document standard methodologies in developing and deploying VMware solutions, and feed them into our knowledge base for reuse by the team, customers and partners.</li><li> You’ll write code and script to produce and refine custom solutions, focusing on test driven development and Agile methodologies as well as deploy and configure products.</li><li> You’ll keep up to date with technology area specific trends, VMware product portfolio and initiatives</li><li> You’ll support WWCC CoE business expansion initiatives</li><li> You’ll mentor and/or coach team members to help them excel</li></ul><p><br></p><strong>The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?</strong><p><br></p>Responsibilities & Priorities:<p><br></p>Technology Leadership 30%<p><br></p>Delivery Excellence 30%<p><br></p>Standardization & Prototyping 30%<p><br></p>Coordination & Outreach 10%<p><br></p><strong>Total</strong> 100%<p><br></p>Technology Leadership<p><br></p><ul><li>Own a technology domain within the WWCC CoE organization and work in collaboration with management, professional services, and R&D teams to explore new opportunities</li><li>Keep up to date with industry trends and VMware strategy and portfolio of products roadmap and initiates activities to innovate and align WWCC CoE services and offerings with those</li><li>Develop, advocate, govern engineering best practices across the whole team; adhere to VMware internal processes during the whole development cycle β idea, patent, requirements, specifications, designs, implementation, bug fixing, QA, support, and so on</li><li>Lead adoption of modern software development methodologies, with emphasis on software and hardware architecture, infrastructure design and development; provide technical guidance to management team </li></ul><p><br></p>Delivery Excellence<p><br></p><ul><li>Consult architects, project managers and consultants during project design phase, review design documents and ensure they meet best practices and required quality level; identify and communicate risks with potential impact on solution delivery, customer satisfaction and team wellbeing </li><li>Ensure that all architectural and design documents, diagrams, non-functional requirements, standards, and best practices are followed and done with high-quality</li><li>Occasional travel to customer sides, partner organizations and other offices abroad, as needed</li></ul><p><br></p>Standardization & Prototyping<p><br></p><ul><li>Assist in the development of standard reusable VMware βproductizedβ consulting service offerings, including definition of tasks, deliverables, and standard estimates</li><li>In close collaboration with other architects, R&D, team leads, and technical experts, lead, coordinate and actively participate hands-on in the identification, research, design, documentation, and prototyping of unified frameworks, integrations, and reusable components</li><li>Actively contribute to company design and development knowledge base (KB) and knowledge-sharing channels and initiatives</li><li>Identify and define standard solutions and reference architectures, specific to a technology domain</li></ul><p><br></p>Coordination & Outreach<p><br></p><ul><li>Be internally and externally recognized SME in a technology domain; be perceived as valuable contributor to respective external forums </li><li>Participate in and contribute to relevant industry and community events, conferences, and forums</li></ul><p><br></p>WWCC CoE Practice Domains (Specific to the Cloud Staff Practice Architect)<p><br></p>Multi Cloud<p><br></p>Primary products: <em>vRealize Suite, vRA Cloud, Salt Stack Config, Cloud Health</em><p><br></p>Multi-cloud Managementβ―is the set of tools and procedures that enables an organization to monitor, optimize, and secure applications and workloads across the data center, edge, and any cloud environment. Ideally, a multi-cloud management solution allows cross-functional teams to manage multiple clouds from a single interface, including different cloud providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, and GCP), and supports multi-cloud deployment and container orchestration tools, such asβ―Kubernetes.<p><br></p>Private Cloud<p><br></p>Primary products: <em>VMware Cloud Foundation, vSphere, VSAN, ESXi</em><p><br></p>Private cloud solutions allow companies to architect a data center using software-defined networking (SDN) and virtualization (VMs). A private cloud can span to include multiple server locations or leased space in international colocation facilities. Private cloud solutions provide the software tools for complex network orchestration on bare-metal servers where the security of data can be managed on the premises of a business directly.<p><br></p>VMware Cloud Provider Program (VCPP)<p><br></p>Primary products: <em>VMware Cloud Director</em><p><br></p>The VMware Cloud Provider Program is comprised of VMware software-as-a-service offerings and our global ecosystem of VMware Service Provider Partners. It is the ideal solution for all companies that offer hosted services to third parties, including infrastructure as a service (IaaS) provider, cloud service providers (CSPs), application service providers (ASPs), Internet service providers (ISPs) and platform as a service (PaaS) providers.<p><br></p>Modern Applications<p><br></p>Primary products: <em>Tanzu Suite</em><p><br></p>Microservices, containers, and Kubernetes help to free apps from infrastructure, enabling them to work independently and run anywhere. With VMware Tanzu, you can make the most of these cloud native patterns, automate the delivery of containerized workloads, and proactively manage apps in production. Itβs all about freeing developers to do their thing: build great apps.<p><br></p>End User Computing<p><br></p>Primary products: <em>Workspace ONE, Horizon</em><p><br></p>End User Computing (EUC) encompasses user access to enterprise applications and data anywhere, anytime, using one or more devices to access virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) located either at the enterpriseβs premises or in the public cloud. EUC provides support for a broad range of client devices including traditional PC, tablet, smartphone, or thin-client terminal device. EUC devices can either be provided by the enterprise or bring-your-own-device (BYOD) owned by employees or other users.<p><br></p><strong>What is the leadership like for this role?
