Job Description
- Research, evaluate and select vendors/suppliers based upon their reputation and performance history, production and distribution capabilities, ability to achieve and maintain quality standards, delivery time scales, product selection and availability, service and support
- Negotiate, renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives
- Select new vendors based on purchasing work instructions
- Confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule
- Order raw materials: different types of steel and metals based on the details of MTO from the engineering
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action
- Develop and build positive, long-term supplier relations
- Generate purchasing orders / RFQs
- Process order requisitions, prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from
- Authorizes payment for purchases by forwarding receiving documentation
- Keeps information accessible by sorting and filing documents
- Maintain accurate computer and/or paper procurement and vendor records utilizing company
- ERP database
- Oversee placement of daily purchase orders with suppliers
- Verifies purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to master list; clarifying unclear items; recommending alternatives
- Forwards available inventory items by verifying stock; scheduling delivery
- Verifies receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves shipments in
Job Requirements
- Steel Fabrication Experience is a MUST.
- Proven working experience (3 years min) as a purchasing officer or agent in the steel fabrication industry
- BS degree in supply chain management, logistics or business administration
- Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
- Interest in market dynamics along with business sense
- A knack for negotiation and networking
- Working experience using vendor management software
- Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures
- Solid judgement along with decision making skills
- Strong leadership capabilities Ability to be self-directed in work and/or previous experience in a self-directed role
- Strong organizational and planning skill
- Problem solving skill
