<strong>Job Description<br><br></strong><strong> Job Overview: <br><br></strong>Provide deliverables from Welding engineering and execution of development projects / tasks, provide metallurgical consultative service to operating groups (Fabrication / Marine) for pipelines scope of work<br><br>Liaise with Operations Manager (Fabrication / Marine), Discipline Managers, PMT, Customers, Operations /Field Engineers, QC/NDT Engineers. Certifying Authority, Other Technical Agencies (for e.g. TWI, DNVGL)<br><br>Represent Welding Engineering on assigned project and proactively lead the assigned welding engineers for pipelines scope.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><strong> Key Tasks and Responsibilities: <br><br></strong><ul><li> Develop the Project Pipeline Welding Execution Plan that define the full scope of Weld Procedures required, schedule of qualification, quantity of electrodes and materials required for qualification. Ensure that proper priorities relevant to project schedules are established and review progress. </li><li> Responsible for seeking the review and approval of all Project Pipeline Weld Procedures through direct and indirect communications with the customer and Certifying Authority. </li><li> Work with the Welding Engineering group and Welding department to execute R&amp;D development projects / goals identified for pipelines under PPG. </li><li> Develops and promotes a culture in line with the company’s values through the functional group </li><li> Maintain contacts with technical groups to maintain updates on developments in welding technology. </li><li> Coordinate with test houses regarding testing of welding qualification coupons. </li><li> Co-ordinate the technical selection of welding wires and repair electrodes based on their physical and chemical and corrosion properties as well as considering their weldability and economics. Conduct regular review of Welding Consumables requirements v/s availability to ensure availability of the same. </li><li> Review project schedules, material control reports and welding consumable estimates to determine changes to the welding execution plan. </li><li> Guide Welding Engineers on day to day matters and mentor trainee welding engineers to have better understanding of Codes, Standards and Project requirements. </li><li> Assist the company in resolving metallurgical, welding and quality related problems, through investigating cause of failures and prescribing fit for purpose. </li><li> Assist in the support and development of automatic welding systems, if required, to meet the project specific requirements. </li><li> Manage welding school facility for the training and development of the workforce to improve the welding methodology and good workmanship practices. </li><li> Responsible for assigned project welding engineering budget and project schedule. </li><li> Review of vendor documents related to Welding Engineering. </li><li> Bid stage: review and summarize customer specifications, identify bid qualifications and clarifications, project welder and procedure qualification requirements, welding consumables requirements and also generate the pipeline cycle times/lay rates. Identify any special needs that may be need for execution. </li><li> Understanding of ECA based acceptance criteria for pipeline projects and must lead the subcontracted and inhouse ECA activities from Welding Engineering perspective. </li><li> Principal Welding Engineer must be capable to handling and leading multiple projects at one time depending upon the quantum of work on the projects. </li><li> Communicates and maintains relationships with key suppliers and vendors for welding, NDT and field joint coatings. </li><li> Maintains an understanding of competition and innovation in the industry to monitor upcoming changes </li><li> Maintains adequate levels of competent personnel within the department and mentors staff for succession planning. </li><li> Other duties related to pipeline production; welding engineering as directed by Senior Manager Welding Engineering – PPG <br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><strong> Essential Qualifications and Education: <br><br></strong><ul><li> Over 10 years within the offshore construction industry primarily within pipeline production roles </li><li> Degree in Engineering preferable – Experience in lieu is acceptable </li><li> Significant experience in rigid pipeline production </li><li> Significant experience with leading R&amp;D initiatives </li><li> Experience of engaging with multi-functional / discipline teams <br><br></li></ul><strong>Company Overview and Core Values:<br><br></strong>McDermott is a premier, fully-integrated provider of technology, engineering and construction solutions to the energy industry.
