Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently looking for an Operations Advisor to join our team in Basra, Iraq.

JOB PURPOSE:             

  • To carry out designated operations duties associated with the safe, efficient and environmentally sound operation of utilities, process systems & machinery in accordance with the approved procedures.
  • These duties include responding to emergency conditions, preparation of equipment for maintenance, housekeeping and proactive monitoring of the area and its equipment during normal operations and maintenance.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and expertise concerning process operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:            

  • Using your operations background you will be actively visible in the field to oversee, direct and coach operators and ensure the day-to-day management of safe, stable, efficient and reliable production within the operating area and all aspects of personnel management at the front line level.
  • Operations of the unit are within safe operating limits, all products are made within specifications.
  • Detection and prompt reporting of facility issues and malfunctions.
  • Ensure 100% compliance to SiteTemporary Defeat (MOS & OOS) Procedures & PTW.
  • A high quality safe work permit is issued prior to any work progressing on the unit, monitor all work within your area of responsibility and work with maintenance, project and other personnel to ensure the activities covered by the permit are undertaken in a safe manner.
  • The operations team is making quality surveillance rounds on equipment.
  • Operations of the unit are within safe operating limits.
  • Monitor all equipment in assigned area and perform basic care checks and report any equipment that requires maintenance attention.
  • Shift handover quality is excellent and strong continuity is maintained across the shifts, log operations information as required.
  • Supervise machinery startup and shutdown in accordance with procedures in the field and on the DCS.
  • Assess shift priorities, assign work and verify proper completion of these assignments.
  • Audit Work Management System compliance, operational procedures and work practices.
  • Report all incidents, follow up to prevent re-occurrences, conduct regular workplace observations and field level hazard assessment audits
  • Work directly with the local national operators to ensure the transfer of knowledge and technical advice during the initial period of operation, On the job training is being administered to develop the team.
  • Interface with DCS System Engineer and I & C Technicians, ensure 100% compliance to Site Temporary Defeat (MOS & OOS) Procedures.
  • Apply procedures to planned startup and shutdown and unplanned shutdown, perform procedure red lining when required
  • Encourages and develops the requirement for the use of detailed unit-specific startup, shutdown and emergency response procedures.
  • Assists the effort to capture startup lessons learned.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Deliver daily Tool Box Talks on specific activity to be executed during the day.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Demonstrate excellent HSE behaviors at all times, and ensure that safety expectations are communicated and maintained, accountable for the safety of the team.
  • Good communication skills and assertiveness to intervene when work is being done unsafely or not per required procedure, recognizes hazards and takes necessary action to eliminate or mitigate the hazard.
  • Clear expectations are set for the operations team, the team is held accountable, both positively and constructively, for their performance.
  • Follows instructions from the Senior Supt and / Operations Supervisor either face to face or via radio.
  • Comprehensive skills and experience in Oil & Gas Process Operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge supported by operations supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong knowledge of process operations hazards and background in troubleshooting.
  • Basic ability and experience with respect to equipment repair.
  • Good understanding of work management systems , HSE practices and application in the field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a similar role is preferred.
