Project Social Specialist

Job Description

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Engineering Project Social Specialist to join our team in Baghdad, Iraq. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in social management and monitoring. The Social Specialist will be responsible for overseeing all social aspects of the project, including the implementation of social mitigation measures and grievance mechanisms outlined in the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP). Additionally, they will provide guidance to the contractor to ensure full compliance with these measures and report on compliance. They will also advise on any necessary penalties should there be non-compliance.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee all social aspects of the project, ensuring compliance with relevant social standards, policies, and regulations.
• Implement and monitor the social mitigation measures and grievance mechanisms outlined in the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
• Collaborate with project stakeholders, local communities, and authorities to address social concerns and facilitate effective communication.
• Instruct the contractor on measures to ensure full compliance with social mitigation measures and grievance mechanisms.
• Regularly report on the contractor’s compliance with social requirements, highlighting any areas of non-compliance and recommending appropriate actions.
• Advise on penalties or corrective measures to be imposed in cases of non-compliance with social mitigation measures.
• Establish and maintain effective grievance mechanisms to address and resolve community concerns and complaints.
• Conduct social impact assessments to identify potential risks and propose appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Provide guidance and support to project teams in integrating social considerations into project planning and decision-making processes.
