This position will report directly to the Director of Student Services.

Summary of Position:

This is a new position in a start-up university setting; in coordination with the Director of Student Services, the Student Success Manager will develop and oversee the advising unit within the Department of Student Services. As a new unit, the manager will be involved in recruitment, writing policies and internal operational procedures, identifying unit goals and strategies, overseeing staff functions and other related duties. The manager provides leadership for the coordination and delivery of advising processes; works collaboratively with Deans and senior administrators to contribute to strategic initiatives that support retention efforts and promote student academic success. The manager will also be part of the wider Student Services department and is required to assist with the coordination, planning and executing of other various student engagement and retention activities.

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of advising interventions with the goal of assisting students in making timely progress toward degree completion. Lead the Student Success Advisor team in assisting students with creating educational plans outlining the academic requirements for them to meet their goals.
Take responsibility for assessing the effectiveness of the student advising services and work toward improving the effectiveness of the office and its programs.
Create and update advising manuals and make them available to all advisors.
Develop key competencies for staff, monitor staff performance, and provide feedback and training for staff development within the unit.
Take responsibility for, and represent, student program advising services during planning of university’s orientation programs.
Serve on campus-wide committees and teams for the purpose of supporting and enhancing student success.
Collaborate with the Registrar and other academic departments to project enrollments for the planning of course schedules.
Lead the Student Success Advisor team in maintaining contact and developing academic success planning with at-risk students throughout each semester.
Ensure that Student Success Advisors are equipped with the current information regarding all program, services, and events on campus.
Assist in developing strategies and programming which address student retention issues.
Create and manage databases and spreadsheets that support the operations of academic advising as well as generate necessary reports.
Coordinate, manage and facilitate workshops, seminars and other events that further promote and support academic advising and student success.
Support Student Services staff in initiating and planning university wide activities.
Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by supervisor.
