Position: Child Protection Community Mobilization Assistant
Location: Aden/Lahj Office
Grade: 5
Contract Length: till Dec 2023 (with a possibility of renewal)
The Opportunity:
Save the Children International (SCI) Yemen Country Programme has an annual budget of around USD 70 million and growing, working mainly on the humanitarian response to the ongoing conflict and its impact including more recently on the cholera outbreak. The SCI Yemen has over 700 staff and 1500 volunteers and works in nine governorates in the north and south of the country through seven field offices and two sub-offices in addition to the main office in Sana’a.
The CP Community Mobilization assistant will be responsible for preparing, implementing the community mobilization events on the different activities of Child Protection, Education, Health and WASH programs.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
Program Support:
General
Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
Specific
- Under supervision of the community mobilization and PSS officer, work with children, parents and caregivers to form and activate the protection committees and community-based networks.
- Train the community networks and mobile teams on mobilization, and child protection related training in coordination with the CP teams.
- Work closely in the field with stakeholders and community leaders to obtain community profiles of targeted communities, assign volunteers per geographic location and supervise the volunteers to disseminate basic key messages on child protection, MHPSS, Hygiene & education issues; and facilitate community and child led campaigns which may include Organize cultural or sports festivals and other extracurricular events targeting children from all segments of the community.
- Supervise the community volunteers to plan all community mobilization activities jointly with the CBPNs – Community Based Networks and compile all field reports to be analyzed by the community mobilization and PSS officer.
- Hold community sessions and meetings to orient the community regarding CP and Education projects, services offered as well as the election mechanism in the targeted areas at both the facility and community level.
- Conduct regular refresher sessions on the CPC and parent-teacher association Terms of Reference (TOR) to ensure clarity in regards of roles and responsibilities.
- Actively support baseline/end line or other surveys for MEAL (monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning) purposes.
- Support the rest of the child protection team Education WASH and Health to implement the required activities when it’s related to protection and community mobilization.
- Ensure that communities are regularly involved in all phases of the programming.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop SCI programmes.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in social science, or Education or any related field.
Essential
- At least 2 years’ experience in a similar post in CP/Education.
- Child Protection / community development experience.
- Have sound facilitation and training skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to represent Save the Children at meetings with government officials
- Computer skills in word, excel, PowerPoint.
- Commitment to Save the Children Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Policy and values
Desired:
- Previous work experience with SCI.
- Background in Emergency programming is an asset.
- Strong verbal and written Arabic skills.
