About the jobAs a Database Administrator in this role, you will be responsible for managing the patching process, ensuring the security and stability of databases across various platforms. Your expertise in Oracle, SQL Server, and related technologies, along with strong documentation and communication skills, will contribute to maintaining a robust and well-patched database infrastructure.
What you’ll do
- Maintain an inventory of all databases and their patch status across multiple platforms (On-premise, AWS, OCI, Azure) used by the organization.
- Develop and manage patch plans for various database products, ensuring comprehensive coverage across different infrastructure environments.
- Coordinate the end-to-end patch management process, from rolling out patches in non-production environments to testing and implementing them in production databases.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including application owners and Change Control Board members, to ensure seamless patch management and compliance with established procedures.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of database patching procedures for each database product and platform.
- Analyze vulnerability assessment reports and customize patch plans accordingly to address identified security risks.
- Collaborate with Information Security, Internal Audit, and Infrastructure teams to maintain a high patch score and ensure compliance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in the patch management workflow.
- Provide L1/L2 support for database-related requests and issues, including proactive alerts, user management, backup operations, and ad hoc tasks.
- Support patching activities during off-hours and weekends as required by business needs.
- Participate in on-call rotations to address operational issues related to databases.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the line manager.
What you’ll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Oracle and SQL Server database administrator.
- Proficiency in installing and patching Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL databases.
- Experience managing databases on Linux and Solaris platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Oracle Grid Infrastructure in RAC/Single instance setup.
- Excellent understanding of Microsoft SQL Server Always-On/Windows clustering technology.
- In-depth understanding of database concepts and core architecture of at least one of the mentioned database products.
- Familiarity with different patch types and release schedules maintained by major database vendors.
- Knowledge of at least one public cloud platform (AWS/Azure/OCI).
- Basic experience in Shell/Python scripting.
