<strong>Position </strong> : Senior Specialist Field Restoration<p><br></p><strong> Reports to </strong> : Land Mobility<p><br></p><strong> Sector: </strong> Land Mobility<p><br></p><strong> Job Location: </strong> NEOM<p><br></p><strong> The Role Purpose: </strong><p><br></p>To plan, organize, coordinate, implement, and manage the field operations of the NEOM Regreening Initiative, including:<p><br></p><ul><li> the strategizing, planning, and implementation of regreening projects and habitat restoration efforts in close coordination with the scientific advisory committee </li><li> the spatial phasing and timing of habitat restoration efforts across landscapes to achieve desired outcomes </li><li> to explore, test, and apply habitat restoration techniques, approaches, and tools to regreen and restore natural vegetation rapidly and at scale </li><li> take the lead as NEOM’s representative and technical specialist for field habitat restoration efforts </li></ul><p><br></p>as part of NEOM’s Regreening and Habitat Restoration efforts in a timely and effective manner using best practices and in accordance with national and international standards<p><br></p><strong> Key Accountabilities & Activities: </strong><p><br></p><ul><li> Contribute to the design and implementation of NEOM’s Regreening Initiative strategic objectives and goals by providing inputs into the adaptive strategy over time </li><li> Work closely with the scientific advisory body procured to help plan and implement the NEOM regreening strategy </li><li> Work closely with senior leaders in other sectors and with external stakeholders to raise awareness of regreening objectives, opportunities, and challenges and support their conservation and management efforts through integration into project design and delivery in relation to values of NEOM. </li><li> Collaborate with relevant NEOM staff members and leaders to identify required projects and initiatives that support the achievement of NEOM’s regreening and habitat restoration vision </li><li> Help develop appropriate native species plant palettes for habitat restoration </li><li> Help plan, implement, and manage the field operations for the Regreening Initiative </li><li> Help identify, organize, procure, and work with NEOM teams to construct, manage, and maintain required facilities and services for successful regreening activities, including nurseries and exclosures </li><li> Work with nursery and seed collection specialists to support active restoration activities </li><li> Help instill a culture of development, guidance, and performance within restoration teams </li><li> Take responsibility, in collaboration with Managers and Director, Land Conservation, for building and maintaining a high-performance team </li><li> Manage field restoration contractors and teams to carry out professional and efficient habitat restoration field projects </li><li> Participate in setting performance requirements and recruiting for staff for positions for habitat restoration activities </li><li> Set performance objectives, provide necessary support, evaluate / appraise staff and provide regular feedback on performance </li><li> Promote a high-performance working environment embracing NEOM’s values </li><li> Help support effective monitoring of progress and effectiveness of regreening and habitat restoration approaches, techniques, and technologies </li><li> Help with identifying, testing, and reporting on new approaches and technologies to facilitate habitat restoration at scale </li><li> Help establish monitoring indicators, approaches, and evaluation processes for habitat restoration and regreening efforts </li><li> Assist in monitoring passive restoration and evaluate drivers </li></ul><p><br></p><strong> Education and Certifications </strong><p><br></p><ul><li> Experience with arid land regreening and natural habitat restoration programs </li><li> Strong background in habitat restoration techniques and approaches </li><li> Strong background in regreening strategy development and implementation </li><li> Experience working with government agencies, scientists, protected area managers, restoration practitioners </li><li> Strong leadership skills and proven ability to simultaneously manage a wide number of different functional areas and multiple staff. </li><li> Have good skills in project management including proposals, scope of work, managing contractors, budgeting, projections, reporting, and communications </li><li> A creative and agile approach to workplace challenges, able to adapt and find solutions to rapidly changing conditions and challenges </li><li> A proven ability to motivate staff and provide appropriate developmental opportunities that increase operational performance </li><li> A willingness and ability to conduct field work in Arabian desert, savanna, and montane arid environments for extended periods of time </li></ul><p><br></p><strong>Qualifications</strong><p><br></p><ul><li> Higher degree in environmental management, restoration ecology, or other relevant field 8 or more years of experience in habitat restoration/regreening work, particularly for arid ecosystems</li></ul>
