We support an inclusive workplace culture that embraces many perspectives and broadens our understanding of the communities we serve, enhancing and enriching our work.<br><br><strong>EDC is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.<br><br></strong><strong>Project Description<br><br></strong>The goal of the USAID Teacher Excellence Initiative Activity project is to improve the quality and relevance of teacher preparation in Egyptian public universities so that current and future primary school teachers have enhanced skills to increase student learning and advance the Ministry of Education and Technical Education’s (MOETE) reform. The activity will achieve this goal through the following results:<br><ul><li>At least 7,500 pre-service teachers in undergraduate programs at Faculties of Education in five Egyptian universities have the skills and knowledge to apply practice-based, experiential teaching methods in the classroom. </li><li>5,000 in-service teachers in postgraduate programs at Faculties of Education in 15 Egyptian universities apply practice-based, experiential teaching methods in the classroom. </li><li>50 Government of Egypt personnel from the MOETE, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), and the Supreme Council of Universities demonstrate improved capacity to jointly plan, manage, and adapt teacher education. <br><br></li></ul><strong>Job Description<br><br></strong><strong>Role Purpose: <br><br></strong>Translate written materials for the project and interpret simultaneously in meetings (English to Arabic and vice versa) to support the achievement of the goals of the TEI project. The Interpreter will report to the Chief of Party and is based in Cairo, Egypt.<br><br><strong>Duties And Responsibilities<br></strong><ul><li>Provide high quality in-person translation from Arabic to English and vice versa.</li><li>Provide simultaneous verbal and written translation during meetings/conferences.</li><li>Ensure that all the technical terminologies are being translated with references or get back to the concerned person in the project.</li><li>Ensure the translated materials adhere to the contest.</li><li>Read and research documents, terminology, and linguistic styles.</li><li>Ensure translated material is suitable for the intended readers.</li><li>Reproduce text accurately in different languages, often using specialist software.</li><li>Translation tends to be from a ‘source language’ (a language that’s not the native tongue) into the ‘target language’ (mother tongue)”</li><li>Develop contacts, build relationships with clients, and manage projects.</li><li>Any other duties and assignments as required by line manager.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><strong>Education:<br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor of relevant degree / or proven track of translated documents; master’s degree preferred.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Skills and Experience:<br></strong><ul><li>Familiar with education terminology and willingness to learn.</li><li>Previous contractual experience, preferably with international NGOs.</li><li>Strong written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical knowledge for non – expert audiences.</li><li>Proven track record of translation and producing similar products, including proven experience in translating complex ideas into simple ones.</li><li>High level of flexibility.</li><li>Ability to plan and organize a workload.</li><li>Excellent computer skills including word processing and presentation in both languages.</li><li>Ability to submit a timely and accurate translation and data.</li><li>Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours according to the need.</li><li>Team player; have strong communication, collaboration, active listening, and problem-solving skills.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Language: <br></strong><ul><li>Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Additional Information<br><br></strong>Due to the volume of applications submitted, only finalists will be notified.
